The digital movie follows along 200 km of road through Death Valley by using the Google streetview tool. The direction and location broadly takes inspiration from journeys made during the gold rush in the late 19th century. The duration of the video work was adjusted to the time it would take a human walking the same distance – 48 hours.
The work tries to set up relationships among different reference systems: the human experience of time and distance, the instant, virtual space of the internet, the visuals of the landscape captured with the speed of a moving car to ask questions about our increasing complex mix of the virtual and real, reference and representation and the experiences within those categories.
